Purses & Accessories Handcrafted by The O'Neil Sisters
As flea market enthusiasts, we often see vintage wooden purses from the sixties that we just have to have. We’re especially wild about the kooky designs by Enid Collins! So we made our own version using ornate rubberstamps, copper leaf, and glistening rhinestones. The hinged wooden purse is glazed with a hint of glossy gold, and the ball feet are finished with copper leaf. The handle is a lime satin ribbon. The perfect purse for an evening of cocktails!
We think this Glitzy Lovebird Purse would be fun to make at a sixties-themed craft party! Set this finished version on your crafting table and supply each guest with a hinged wooden box, purse hardware, four wooden knobs, and rhinestones. Then follow the how-to we wrote for Crafts ‘n Things magazine. Your guests can share the paint, rubberstamps, and ribbon. Fun!

This naughty-but-nice purse takes guilty pleasures to a whole new level! We were inspired to make it when we saw a stack of racy, paperback romance novels at the flea market with titles like “Master Of Desire,” “Midnight Masquerade,” and “Dare To Love.” The covers were all so dramatic, it was hard to pick just one! To make the purse, we laminated the front and back covers of a dramatic “bodice-ripper,” then fashioned it into a purse using clear vinyl, grommets, and brass brads. For the handle, we fed ball chain through two pieces of clear plastic tubing.
Have your best friends over for a craft party, and each gal can go home with her own Harlequin Handbag. Pass around our finished purse so everyone can see how it’s done, and follow the how-to we wrote for Crafts ‘n Things for detailed instructions. Serve petit fors, chocolate truffles, and strawberries. And don’t forget the Cosmos!
