Brooches Handcrafted by The O'Neil Sisters
Heart of Gold Button Brooch
Our inspiration for this button brooch came from a bowl of pearlized vintage buttons at the Alameda Antique Faire in the San Francisco bay area. We thought the glitzy gold-leafed heart made the perfect backdrop for the buttons––and we loved the way the monochromatic design shows off the shape and style of each button.
This Heart of Gold Brooch is a wonderful project for a Girls Night craft party. Invite the gang over and set out bowls of pearly shirt buttons, gold leaf, and wooden craft hearts. Each gal can make a brooch for her mother, grandmother, or best friend. Just use our finished version as a model and follow the steps in our free how-to that we wrote for Lifetime TV's web site.

We love to collect tiny flea market finds and turn them into artsy-phartsy brooches! To create this beautiful bauble, we layered a foreign coin, a watch face, an ornate brass appliqué, and an old key onto a vintage button. Then we embellished it with a Swarovski crystal rhinestone and a black butterfly charm. A wonderful gift for a stylish mom or a fashion-forward best friend!

We are drawn to jars of vintage buttons at the flea market. For this vintage button brooch, we sorted the buttons by color and picked the prettiest ones in ivory, copper, burnt sienna, and amber. Then we layered them on a gold-leafed wooden heart for an opulent and antiquey look.
You can give this brooch as a gift, or use it as an inspiration piece for a craft party with friends. Sort the buttons according to color, then place the rainbow of button-filled bowls down the center of the table. Give each guest a wooden craft shape, a sheet of gold leaf, glue, and a pinback. Then let their creativity run wild! Just use our finished version as a model and follow the steps in our free how-to that we wrote for Lifetime TV’s web site.

Little Birdy Flea Market Brooch
When we see a bowl of broken jewelry at the flea market, our eyes light up! What seems like a bunch of cast-offs to someone else looks like a collection of art materials to us. For this brooch, we decided to give an old rhinestone earring new life as a glitzy focal point. It really pops against the black watch face and mother-of-pearl-style button. We added a glass heart charm and a scarlet Swarovski crystal for a little color. We finished it off by hanging a little bird charm from a decorative clip-on earring back. Very chichi!

Her Majesty The Queen Flea Market Brooch
Postage stamps are mini works of art. And when we found this tinted portrait stamp of The Queen, we thought it would make a striking centerpiece for an elegant evening brooch. We framed The Queen in a pearl heart and placed her on a coin from Hong Kong. Nothing like a little international flair! We encircled the coin with a piece of gold-tone chain from a vintage watch fob. As a finishing touch, we dangled a rhinestone flower from a broken earring. God save the Queen!
