Earth-shattering idea bears fruit

What makes a good fruit bowl? Almost anything, say sisters Jennifer and Kitty O'Neil, the authors of the new book "Decorating With Funky Shui: How to Lighten Up, Loosen Up and Have Fun Decorating Your Home" ($14.95, Andrews McMeel). Anything concave can be considered a fruit bowl, the pair said. Our favorite example is a bowl made from half a globe. Pick up a vintage globe at antique stores for about $12-$30. If you make your bowl out of the half of the world that has the stand, there are lots of designs to choose from. You can find globe stands printed with the signs of the zodiac and advertising slogans. The only thing left is to decide what to do with the top of the world (hint: a hanging lampshade?).
