Old Time Easter Pail
A metal pail decoupaged with vintage images of bunnies and chicks makes a delightful Easter basket.
SUPPLIES
5 quart steel pail
45 large photocopies of Dover Old-time Holiday Easter clip art (photocopied on Laser printer, not ink jet)
Scissors
Mod Podge decoupage medium, matte finish
8 wooden craft goose eggs
Rit dye, Teal
1-inch flat bristle paintbrush
2 feet blue ribbon, 1 inch wide
Pyrex measuring cup, 2-cup size
Teaspoon
Chopstick
Tongs
Empty egg carton
Green excelsior, 120 cubic inches
Paper plate
STEPS:
1. Photocopy the clip art with a Laser printer, enlarging some images. Cut out the images with scissors.
2. Dilute the decoupage medium with a little water on a paper plate. Cut several images in half and glue them to the top edge and bottom edge of the pail. Paint a layer of decoupage medium under and over each image. Next, cut images to fit around the handle. Continue to layer images, painting decoupage medium under and over each image. Smooth out any wrinkles with a damp finger. Let the pail dry.
3. To dye the eggs, fill the Pyrex cup with 1½ cups of water. Heat in the microwave for 3 minutes on high. Using the chopstick stir in a teaspoon of Rit dye. Quickly dip each egg using the tongs. Let the eggs dry on an egg carton.
4. To make a fluffy bow, pinch 2-inches from the end of the ribbon between your index finger and thumb. Twist the ribbon between your thumb and finger. Make a loop up over your thumb, pull the ribbon back between your thumb and index finger, and twist beneath the piece that’s already there. Start making loops, twisting and pinching each time. Tie a 6-inch length of ribbon around the inside of the loops and knot. Use the ends to tie the bow onto the pail handle.
5. Arrange the green excelsior grass in the pail and then arrange the teal egg on top. The scale of the larger goose eggs adds a touch of whimsy to this darling old time Easter basket.
Beyond The Pail: You can decoupage a pail for any season. For Halloween use vintage black cats and pumpkins for a unique candy catch-all. A Christmas basket covered with Santas and reindeer makes a delightful decoration filled with Shiny Brite ornaments.
