WHAT YOU'LL NEED
  • Framed mirror, 17” x 17”
  • Silk flowers, about 120 blooms
  • Krylon Fusion White spray paint
  • Rust-oleum American Accents Mango spray paint
  • Hot glue gun & glue
  • Wire cutters
  • Copy paper
  • Masking tape
  • Drop cloth

Step 1
To get started, mask off the mirror with paper and masking tape. Slide pieces of paper between the mirrored surface and the frame, taping them together as you go. Then prepare the faux flowers by snipping the blooms off the stems with the wire cutters, leaving about ½” of stem. (If you snip too close to the petals, the flowers could come apart.)

Step 2
To decorate the frame, hot glue the blooms to the surface. Apply the hot glue to one side of the ½” stem, press onto the frame, and hold until glue cools. Start with the inside edge, facing the flowers toward the mirror. Next, cover the outside edge, facing the flowers outward. Then fill in the middle. Save the smallest flowers to fill in empty spaces. When you are done hot-gluing, remove any glue strings from the petals.

Step 3
Prime the flowers and frame with the Krylon Fusion spray paint. This brand adheres well to the plastic stems and evens out the colors of the flowers. When the primer dries, apply several coats of Mango spray paint. Turn the frame between coats so the paint can cover the flowers and frame from all angles. When the paint has fully dried, remove the masking tape and paper. Then check out that glam looking glass, and reflect on your accomplishment!

Mirror Mistake: Before you hang the mirror, check to see what will be reflected. You may think you have the perfect spot until you realize the mirror is reflecting the back of the couch.  No one wants a framed view of that!

Color Me Beautiful: White, pink, and yellow blossoms are easier to paint a light color. So unless you’re going Goth, skip the black roses and opt for lighter colored blooms.

Mirrors are a decorating essential, perfect for reflecting light into any room in the house. Update this classic by giving an old looking glass a new look inspired by nature.

Simply cover the frame of a mirror with silk flowers and leaves. Then add a coat of colorful Mango paint, one of this summer’s hottest hues, to transform the blossoms into a sophisticated sculptural piece.
